WASHINGTON—Federal U.S. safety officials are investigating about 340,000 of Ford Motor Co.'s 2008 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickup trucks for a reported steering problem.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received five complaints that an internal failure of the steering gear box results in a complete loss of steering control.
Among the complaints is one Super Duty truck that allegedly lost steering and crashed into a parked vehicle.
Kelli Felker, Ford's safety communications manager, said the company is cooperating fully with NHTSA on the investigation.
The agency will investigate the complaints and determine if a recall is necessary.
