DURAND, Wis. (May 16, 2013) — Bauer Built Inc. has selected six high school students, children or grandchildren of Bauer Built employees, to receive $1,000 scholarships toward their further education.
The stipends are given under the guise of the G. F. "Sam" and Ethel V. Bauer/Bauer Built, Inc. Scholarship Award, named for the firm's founders. These latest scholarships bring the total awarded since the fund was established in 1994 to more than $75,000, the Durand-based commercial dealership said.
To be eligible, applicants must be a Bauer Built employee or a son or daughter, stepson or stepdaughter, or grandchild of a Bauer Built employee who is graduating from high school and enrolled in a post-secondary course of instruction.
The recipients this year are:
Brooke Fenske, daughter of Lyle and Carol Fenske of Fremont, Neb.; Mr. Fenske is an outside sales person at the Bauer Built Tire Center in Fremont. Brooke is graduating from Fremont High School in Fremont and will be studying dental hygiene at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Heather Gibson, daughter of Gary and Jean Gibson of Eleva, Wis.; Ms. Gibson is the administrative assistant for the Property & Equipment Department at Bauer Built's headquarters in Durand. Heather is graduating from Eleva-Strum High School in Strum, Wis., and will be studying dental hygiene at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, Wis.
Shaina Hayden, daughter of Glenn and Gina Hayden of Arkansaw, Wis.; Mr. Hayden works in the Durand Retread Shop. Shaina is graduating from Durand High School in Durand and plans to obtain a degree in nursing from Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, Wis.
Samuel Jasperson, son of Ronald and Rebecca Jasperson of Durand and grandson of Mary Asher, who is an account specialist at Bauer Built's headquarters. Samuel is graduating from Durand High School and plans to major in health science and business at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Corey Lane, daughter of Jody and Trudi Lane of Durand, as well as granddaughter of Larry Weber (Marcia), retired owner of Bauer Built, and the great granddaughter of the founding Bauers; Mr. Lane is manager of the Durand Wholesale Division. Corey is graduating from Durand High School and will study business administration at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire.
Cory Sullivan, son of Rodney and Michele Sullivan of Avon, Ind.; Mr. Sullivan is the store manager of the Bauer Built Tire Center in Indianapolis. Corey is graduating from Avon High School in Avon and plans to major in agribusiness at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
With their application each applicant must submit a hand-written essay on the field of study being pursued along with their career goals, two letters of recommendation and verification of grade-point average.
