UVALDE, Texas (May 3, 2013) — Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C. has previewed the General Altimax RT43, a new all-season touring tire, at a dealer event at the company's Uvalde Proving Grounds.
Conti said the Altimax RT43 is designed to give passengers a quiet, comfortable ride, combined with year-round, all-season traction. It replaces the Altimax RT launched in 2007.
Conti began accepting dealer orders May 1 for delivery starting in August.
"Our tire engineers have combined several technologies to give the consumer an all-season touring tire that is a notable value," said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for General Tire. "We have married together two new technologies with our existing Replacement Tire Monitor and Visual Alignment Indicators technologies for one fantastic tire.
"Our team has constructed a tire that is stylish and gives the consumer a solid value while providing the performance they demand. This is important to our customers who are looking to stretch a dollar in today's economy."
Conti said the Altimax RT43 features Peak Anti-Slip Sipe Design (PASD) technology, which increases the number of biting edges for traction on slippery roads, and the company's Low Surface Abrasion (LSA) technology. It provides construction elements that reduce tread distortion as the tire rolls, resulting in less surface abrasion promoting even treadwear and extended treadlife.
The Altimax RT43 has a 45-day customer satisfaction trial, according to the tire maker, and a 75,000-mile limited treadlife warranty. It comes in 44 sizes ranging from 175/70R13 to 225/50R18 with a UTQG wear rating of 600 for 13- to 15-inch sizes and 700 for 16- to 18-inch sizes.
