LAS VEGASSuperior Tire & Service has taken over operating the predominantly Goodyear dealership in Las Vegas owned by the late California tire dealer Bruce Scher.
Scher's Superior Tire Inc. had closed its 13-store operation in the Las Vegas area in December following Mr. Scher's unexpected death. Superior Tire & Service purchased the assets of the business and said it expects to rehire most of the laid-off 81 employees.
It will handle all Goodyear Nationwide Warranty service and honor service contracts from the previous ownership, the company said. The new management recently opened several stores with plans to restart up to 11 stores by the end of May.
The announcement did not identify who, besides Shane Ely, Superior Tire & Service district manager, is involved in the bid to reopen the Las Vegas dealership which Mr. Scher had operated since 2003.
AUBURN, N.H.Sullivan Tire & Auto Service has acquired Auburn Tire & Toys L.L.C., an Auburn-based wholesaler that now becomes Sullivan's 12th distribution facility.
Former Auburn Tire owner Mark Hilliard and his staff of four will continue to be employed by Sullivan Tire.
Financial terms of the deal, which included Auburn Tire's 12,000-sq.-ft. warehouse, were not disclosed.
The warehouse will serve whole-sale customers in central and southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. The facility will have a staff of 15 employees and stock about 10,000 tires, the company said.
DAYTONA, Fla.RNR Custom Wheels & Tire Express opened a location March 1 in Daytona, up the street from the city's famed speedway.
The new store is Tampa, Fla.-based RNR's ninth corporate location and 64th overall.
Larry Sutton, RNR's founder and president, said the company is delighted to bring our concept to the Daytona market. For the past couple of years, we have had several inquiries online from the Daytona market wondering when we would open there.
The company said it plans to open at least two stores a year during the next five years.
The new location is 3,200 square feetsmaller than a typical RNR store's footprint of 5,000 square feetand has two service bays for installing wheels and tires, an RNR spokesperson told Tire Business.
RNRwhich carries most major custom wheel and tire brandsprovides customers with retail, rent-to-own and other payment options.
