TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 8, 2013) — The Florida Senate Committee on Communications, Energy and Public Utilities voted 7-0 on April 1 to approve a bill repealing requirements that all gasoline sold within the state contain a percentage of ethanol.
The bill, SB 320, will next be reviewed in an April 9 hearing before the state Committee on Environmental Protection and Conservation. No vote on the legislation is expected at that hearing.
The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is urging its Florida members to write their state senators in support of SB 320.
"SB 320 recognizes that the life span of vehicles and equipment can be dramatically reduced with the wrong fuel," SEMA said on its SEMA Action Network (SAN) website. http://semasan.com "While the current ethanol mandate does not apply to fuel used in collector vehicles, off-road vehicles, motorcycles or small engines, there has been an inability to obtain unblended gasoline for engines that may be damaged by ethanol."
More information on SB 320 is on the SAN site.
