AKRON (April 5, 2013) — Goodyear will host more than 1,200 students, parents and teachers from across the Akron/Cleveland area for the tire maker's 13th annual Engineering Career Day.
The event will be held April 20 at Firestone High School in Akron. During the competition, Goodyear plans to give away more than $30,000 in grant awards and scholarship money to students and teachers from local high schools and middle schools.
The Akron-based company said the event will provide an opportunity "to interact with groups of students, parents, teachers and business leaders." Several universities, along with more than 20 Akron/Cleveland-area corporations will have representatives present for an informational fair, panel discussions and hands-on demonstrations to help students learn about careers in engineering.
Students will rotate through a series of panel presentations and demonstrations from local organizations, which include a hands-on competition requiring use of engineering acumen, Goodyear said. The day will culminate with a "STEM challenge," as the top teams compete for points. The announcement of scholarship and grant winners will be made by Joseph Zekoski, Goodyear's interim chief technical officer.
