PARIS (March 28, 2013) — The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has awarded Michelin Motorsport the contract to be the official tire supplier for the FIA's Formula E Championship for electric racing cars, set to debut next year.
Michelin did not disclose any details of type or sizes of tires it will be supplying.
The Formula E Championship will compete on street circuits around the world. Eight cities has been confirmed so far as venues: Beijing, Buenos Aires, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Putrajaya, Malaysia, Rio de Janeiro and Rome.
Thus far just two teams, representing Great Britain and China, have declared their intent to be part of what the FIA envisions as field of 10 two-car teams.
The teams entering the championship will use customer cars supplied by series XXXX Formula E Holdings. The car is being developed by Spark Racing Technology (SRT), British racing team McLaren and Italian chassis builder Dallara Automobili S.p.A.
