WASHINGTON (March 21, 2013) — By a 318-109 vote, the U.S. House of Representatives has approved a short-term measure to fund the operations of the federal government through the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.
The House voted the day after the Senate, which on March 20 passed the funding resolution 73-26.
Congress had until March 27 to approve the resolution or face the shutdown of the federal government with the end of the current funding measure. The bill goes to President Barack Obama for signing.
The House also voted to approve the budget plan by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., by a party-line, 221-207 vote. The Ryan measure calls for cutting $5 trillion from federal spending over 10 years, along with $600 billion in tax increases.
