AUSTIN, Texas (March 7, 2013) — The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is asking its members in Texas to write their state legislators to oppose Texas Senate Bill 888, which it claims would weaken the state's periodic vehicle safety inspection law.
Texas law requires annual safety inspections for all vehicles registered in the state. Senate Bill 888 would change the requirements for inspection to vehicles between five and 25 years old, the ASA said.
Currently, all vehicles between two and 25 years old must be inspected. Loosening these requirements would be hazardous to both motorists and the environment, according to the association.
The ASA has posted a copy of the full bill on its legislative website.
Members also can send a letter of protest by clicking on the site's "Track State Legislation" tab.
