Toyota
Toyota says that some 2003-04 Corolla and Matrix 2WD models, as well as 2005 Matrix 4WD vehicles, may turn on the Check Engine light and log EVAP system codes P0440, P0441, P0442, P0446 and/or P0456 in PCM memory.
One possible cause of the trouble, reports the Japanese carmaker, is a corroded fuel tank filler pipe. You'll likely find the corrosion at the fuel cap sealing surface. Replacing the filler pipe with a revised design, part no. 77201-12750, is the simple fix. After installing the new pipe, check the O-ring on the fuel cap for tears or damage, and replace the cap as necessary.
General Motors
Owners of 2007-09 Saturn SKY models may complain of a whining or growling sound from the power steering system. According to GM, the noise usually occurs at start-up in extremely cold temperatures (10 degrees or lower), typically lasts for only a few seconds, and is due to overly thick power steering fluid.
Flushing out the old fluid and filling the system with a new, multi-viscosity steering fluid should eliminate the concern. Order part no. 12345866 (pint containers) or part no. 12345867 (quart bottles).
Subaru
Some 2008-10 Impreza, WRX and STI cars, as well as 2009-10 Forester SUVs, may emit a rubbing-type sound from the front suspension when driven over rough road surfaces. According to Subaru, the noise is most apparent in colder temperatures, and is likely due to the stabilizer bar bushings sticking to the steel sway bar. Installing updated bushings made of a more pliable rubber compound should eradicate the noise immediately. For 2008 WRX and 2008-10 Impreza and STI models, order part no. 20414FG020. For 2009-10 Forester and WRX models, order part no. 20414AG070.
