BALTIMORE—J. Russell Kimmel, who operated Kimmel Tire Co. until its sale about a decade ago, died on Jan. 25 at his Reisterstown, Md., home. He was 84.

In 1945 Mr. Kimmel began working at the dealership his father Charles E. Kimmel founded in 1938 in Baltimore.

Kimmel Tire was sold to Monro Muffler Brake Inc. in 2002.

Mr. Kimmel is survived by his wife Jane; daughter Susan Kimmel McCormick; step-children Robert Edward Curley (Lynn), Jane Curley Hogge (Bryan) and Janet Curley Menton (Tom); three siblings and 11 grandchildren. His first wife of 38 years, Mary Garrity Kimmel, died in 1987.
