ALTON, Va. (Feb. 12, 2013) — MTS Systems Corp., a manufacturer of high-performance test systems and position sensors, has installed what it's calling the "world's most advanced tire testing system" at the National Tire Research Center in Alton.
The Flat-Trac LTRe Tire Testing System is now fully operational, MTS said. The system is unique in its ability to accurately apply complex, real-world driving maneuvers to passenger, light truck and racing tires in a controlled, repeatable laboratory setting, the company said.
The Flat-Trac LTRe can simulate a wide range of operating conditions and driving events, and is the first system capable of replicating maneuvers required by federal electronic stability control standards, according to MTS.
Auto and tire manufacturers will use data generated by the Flat-Trac LTRe to optimize vehicle and tire safety and performance, the Eden Prairie, Minn.-based company said.
