LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2013) — Standard Motor Products Inc. (SMP) has acquired an equity position in Orange Electronic Co. Ltd., a Taiwan-based designer and manufacturer of tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensors.
The companies have had a working relationship for several years, according to Standard, a Long Island-based manufacturer, distributor and marketer of replacement parts for motor vehicles.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Standard said it offers a full line of OE matching sensors with more than 98-percent full-line coverage, as well as a growing line of clone-able sensors that match the original unit for fit, form and function.
Standard called Orange Electronic an innovator in the field of wireless TPMS. The company has received various awards for innovative designs and acquired a number of TPMS patents — including one for the advanced TPMS clone-able technology.
Standard cited a recent study by Frost & Sullivan Inc. that predicted this product category will more than triple in volume by 2018.
