DETROIT (Jan. 30, 2013) — The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has fined American Recyclers L.L.C. for emissions violations at a Portland, Ore., used oil processing facility, according to the agency.
The company failed to analyze samples of fuel oil before burning as required, inspectors found. The oil was later found to exceed the limit for sulfur set in the company's air permit, the agency said in a statement.
The DEQ issued penalties of $8,700. The company has until Feb. 4 to appeal the penalty.
