TOKYO (June 20, 2012) — The Federation International de l'Automobile has extended a race tire contract with Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. for the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) through 2015.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Yokohama has been the series' control race tire supplier since 2006.
The WTCC features touring cars complying with the “Super 2000,” regulations — i.e., production-based two- and four-door, four-seat touring cars powered by 2-liter normally aspirated or 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-, 5- or 6-cylinder engines.
The 2012 season comprises a dozen race weekends at tracks in Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America. Among the cars competing are the BMW 3-seires, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus and SEAT Leone (a Volkswagen A.G. brand).
Yokohama supplies Advan dry and wet weather racing tires for the series.
