MONTREAL (June 1, 2012) — Tire-handling equipment maker Martins Industries Inc. has built the world's largest tire safety inflation cage — capable of handling mining tires up to 110 inches tall.
Montreal-based Martins Industries, with assistance from the the international mining company Rio Tinto Group, spent eight months researching and developing the cage, Martins said.
The new cage can handle OTR tires up to 51-inch rim diameter, provided they are not wider than 48 inches, Martins said. The cage weighs 6,500 pounds as is hot dip galvanized to withstand temperature ranging from -22º F to 122º F.
Martins Industries posted a video on its website for those interested in learning more.
The company has been designing and making tire storage, handling and display systems since 1987. It operates assembly plants in Montreal and Taipei along with distribution centers in Montreal, Memphis, Tenn., and Sydney, Australia.
