MILAN, Italy (May 10, 2012) — Pirelli & C. S.p.A. Chairman and CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera will absorb the duties of exiting Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. CEO Francesco Gori in a restructuring designed to shorten the decision-making chain.
Mr. Gori disclosed today he is leaving the company after 33 years in its employ.
Under the new structure, Maurizio Boiocchi and Andrea Pirondini, newly named chief technical officer and chief commercial officer, respectively, will be the most senior executives under Mr. Tronchetti Provera.
Mr. Boiocchi will have responsibility for product, processes, quality, OE, and team motorsport functions; in particular, the chief technical officer will coordinate the OE function so as to optimize relationships with car makers and increase the efficiency of processes linked to experimentation and product development, Pirelli said. He is a 42-year Pirelli veteran.
Mr. Pirondini, 57, will oversee marketing, sales and retail functions with the aim of strengthening commercial operations and enhancing co-ordination among geographic areas. He has been with Pirelli since 1989 and most recently was vice president of the truck tire business unit.
The chairman also will have direct reporting from the heads of staff, planning and controlling, operations and supply chain—in order to facilitate crossover support to all businesses—as well as from the heads of the two-wheeler and industrial tire sectors, products and services for the environment and PZero moda activities, the company said.
The new model divides the market into eight regions: Central Europe; South Europe, Northwest Europe; Russia and Nordics; Africa, Middle East and India; Asia/Pacific; Latin America; and NAFTA. The regions will report to the chief commercial officer for all commercial and marketing activities.
