WAYNE, N.J. (April 3, 2012) — Hankook Tire America Corp. is adding a Facebook site to its marketing efforts this year as it looks to grow past the $1 billion sales level it achieved in the U.S. last year.

Wayne-based Hankook's Facebook social media site will debut this month and will feature retailer-supported promotions and sweepstakes and the firm's various motorsports activities.

Adding a Facebook site is one of several initiatives Hankook is undertaking this year to promote the brand, according to Soo Il Lee, president of Hankook Tire America.

“We have increased our marketing investments significantly over the past few years and we are seeing the ROI (return on investment) through a surge in sales and overall brand awareness in the U.S. market,” Mr. Lee said.

“Through continued investment in R&D, industry leading product and technology advancements, and a concerted effort to reach consumers directly via fully integrated marketing campaigns, we are confident that we will achieve continued success in 2012.”

Other activities by the tire marketer include:

  • Baseball: Hankook is advertising its brand behind home plate at 26 Major League Baseball ballparks across America, up from 11 in 2010, including Busch Stadium, home of the defending World Series Champions, St. Louis Cardinals.

  • Motorsports: Hankook continues its sponsorship in 2012 of Formula Drift and will sponsor five teams; the company also will support teams competing in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, various off-road racing venues and 25 Hours of Thunder Hill.

  • Consumer promotions: Hankook's current “Great Catch” giveaway promotion—with a 2012 Mini Cooper S convertible as grand prize—runs through June 30.

  • Times Square billboard: Hankook's tire-shaped billboard will continue in Times Square in New York City for the second year.

  • College basketball: Hankook plans to have courtside advertising at several pre-season men's and women's college tournaments for the second year running, as well as over the course of the regular season and into conference championship play.

  • Mr. Lee also attributed the Hankook brand's rising awareness to the company's increasing OE fitments with vehicle makers such as BMW A.G. and Ford Motor Co.'s Lincoln brand.
