A poker run held this past spring in honor of the late Tom McCormick, founder of George's Wholesale Tires in Port Richey, raised $6,500 for Hope Children's Home in Tampa, Fla.
Carol McCormick, widow of Mr. McCormick, said 30 motorcycle riders participated in the event, sponsored by George's Wholesale Tires, Carroll Tire, Barron's Wholesale Tire Inc. and Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. Rider Moe Weisberg won the event's first prize of $500 for the best hand.
The poker run, which memorialized Mr. McCormick's love for children and motorcycles, had five stops, including one at Hope Children's Home in Tampa, a shelter for abused, neglected or unwanted children.
Ms. McCormick said she plans to make the poker run an annual event.
George's Wholesale operates two stores, in Port Richey and New Port Richey.
