Jess Lightner, owner and president of Lightner Tire Co. in Akron, died Jan. 17 following a battle with ALS. He was 65.

Everybody from all over the place has said what a giving man he was, said Debbie Hamberg, Mr. Lightner's stepdaughter and vice president of Lightner Tire.
He helped out other businessesguys that were having trouble with their businesseswhether it be by pushing customers their way or something like that. I've had so many people in the last month just coming up and saying they wouldn't be where they are in their business if it wasn't for him.
Ms. Hamberg's son Jeffrey Bonnell and her brother Michael Bonnell also work at the tire shop, which remains open for business.
