The Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP) has honored Yokohama Tire Corp.'s Salem plant with Extraordinary Environmental Enterprise (E4) status for its environmental friendliness.
Among the 450 participants in VEEP, about 30 have qualified as E4 companies. To attain E4 status, members must complete one full environmental management system cycle, which includes the issuance of an environmental policy, action planning, implementation and control, checking and corrective action and management review.
Members must undergo external inspection of their environmental management system and are required to report on their continuing environmental efforts.
Virginia launched VEEP in 2005 as a cooperative effort with local companies and organizations. The program offers members benefits such as recognition for their accomplishments, reduced permitting fees and regulatory flexibility.
