EDMONTON, Alberta (Nov. 29, 2010) — Rubber recycler Rubber Tech International Inc. has been acquired by an unidentified buyer and has struck a deal to supply crumb rubber to Champagne Edition Inc., an Edmonton-based processor of recycled rubber sidewalks, flooring, mats and other goods.
Penrose Group Inc., a business consulting firm based in Edmonton and Toronto, facilitated the sale for an eight-figure sum and said it would continue to function as the lead business development consultant for Champagne, working to expand Champagne's manufacturing operations across Canada and into the U.S.
Champagne's range of products are marketed under the trade names Soft Step, Soft Stall, Eco-Flex, Yukon mats and E-Z Drive. Champagne operates a 70,000-sq.ft. plant near Edmonton and a sales and marketing office in Rockwood, Ontario.
The company claims to use 11 million pounds of recycled rubber monthly — equivalent to 500,000 passenger tires. The City of Calgary, Alberta, recently installed Champagne Editon rubber sidewalks in three neighborhoods in Calgary.
Lindsey Penrose, Penrose Group president and CEO, could not be reached for comment.
