FORT MILL, S.C. (Nov. 22, 2010) — Continental Tire the Americas has added three sizes to its HSR2 SA all-position truck tire line geared toward the recreational vehicle and regional bus segment in North and South America
Conti launched the HSR2 SA (Heavy Steer Regional, Special Application) in 2009 and achieved Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay certification for the tire in July as a low-rolling resistance truck tire when used in line-haul steer positions.
The new sizes — 275/80R22.5, 295/80R22.5 and 315/80R22.5 — are more common for medium buses and larger RVs, Conti said.
The HSR2 SA is designed and produced at Conti's GTY Tire Co. joint venture factory in Mt. Vernon, Ill.
Designating the HSR2 SA for buses and RVs rounds out Conti's portfolio for people movers. Conti previously introduced its HSL1 Coach long-distance steer/all-position tire for heavier buses and RVs and the HSU1, a steer/all-position tire for urban bus traffic.
“A standard method of travel in Central and South America, bus and rapid transit is rapidly growing in the North American markets as public transportation systems are added and consumers look for ways to reduce their environmental impact,” said Clif Armstrong, CTA's marketing director for commercial tires in the Americas.
“By completing our product lineup for bus tires with the HSR2 SA, we have introduced our first regional application bus tire for the Americas that will help fleet managers and even RV drivers control their tire and fuel costs.”
The HSR2 SA provides fuel efficiency on regional roads through advanced tread design and compounding, Conti said.
