FALLS CHURCH, Va. (Sept. 29, 2010) — The Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association (AMRA), in conjunction with the Motorist Assurance Program (MAP), is offering its members a listing of state regulations concerning automotive repair estimates and invoices.
The publication, “State Regulations Affecting Auto Repair Facilities: State Requirements for Estimates & Invoices,” contains a listing for each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia showing requirements for creating estimates and invoices.
In most states, repair shops must provide a written estimate prior to the commencement of repairs, the AMRA said. The estimate must include all the parts, materials and labor, which in the standard practice of the trade or industry would normally be included in the repairs for which the estimate was requested.
The publication is available for download as a PDF in the member section of the AMRA website.
Other specialized custom reports, free to members and compiled from the state regulations, include: “Emissions, Inspections & Hazardous Waste,” “Shop Fees” and “Altered-Height Vehicles.”
