DRUMMOND ISLAND, Mich. (Aug. 31, 2010) — Michelin North America Inc.'s BFGoodrich Tires brand has honored Drummond Island as one of its 2010 Outstanding Trails.
Off-road enthusiasts and Drummond Island Off-Road club members were in attendance as the tire maker presented a $4,000 grant to the club's president. The grant will be used to preserve the scenic off-highway trail system and continue conservation efforts in the area.
Working in conjunction with Tread Lightly! and United Four Wheel Drive Associations (UFWDA), BFGoodrich chose the Drummond Island trail system because of its beauty and ability to challenge off-road enthusiasts, the company said. The system offers 115 miles of trail laid out in a closed loop system.
The Outstanding Trails program celebrates its five-year anniversary in 2010. Since its inception, it has recognized 19 off-road trails in 16 states and two in Canada, while giving out more than $70,000 in grants to various clubs.
Each trail that is recognized will be highlighted on BFGoodrich's Nation of GO website. The site allows visitors to interact with members and share off-road driving experiences, including photos and videos.
