SEOUL, South Korea (July 7, 2010) — Hankook Tire Co. Ltd. has obtained a greenhouse emission certification from British Standards Institution (BSI), making it the first company in the industry in South Korea to receive one.
All of Hankook's facilities in South Korea passed BSI's exam, and the firm was awarded the certificate June 14 at the Hankook factory in Daejeon, Chungcheong Province.
A spokesman for BSI said the certificate confirms the Korean tire maker has used appropriate data collection and analysis systems in reporting its greenhouse gas emissions.
The certificate does not assess those emissions against external standards; it confirms that the data presented by the company are accurate, according to BSI.
Suh Sueng Hwa, CEO of Hankook Tire, said the certification sets the foundation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other future opportunities such as emission trading and other programs to reduce gas emissions.
