UNCASVILLE, Conn. (April 30, 2010) — The New England Tire & Service Association (NETSA) inducted longtime members Edward Hogan and Anthony (Tony) Koles into its Hall of Fame April 17.
The two were honored during the association's annual trade show and convention in Uncasville.
Mr. Hogan, 92, of Hogan Tire & Auto Service Centers, based in Woburn, Mass., is the second generation of his family to work in the business, having joined his father in the dealership in 1953. Today, Hogan Tire has six primarily retail locations in the greater Boston area. Mr. Hogan's three sons work in the dealership: Ed, as president, Bill, as operations manager, and Tom, as a manager.
Mr. Hogan is a past president of the former National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association (NTDRA) and was elected into the Tire Industry Hall of Fame in 1992.
Mr. Koles is owner and president of Montvale Tire Co. in Melrose, Mass. The retail dealership has two locations, the other being in Woburn, Mass.
Mr. Koles became involved with the New England Tire Dealers Association in 1983 and was the group's president in 1993-94. He continues to serve on the NETSA board.
In 1995, he was elected a director of the NTDRA, serving on the board for eight years during which time the association changed its name first to the Tire Association of North America and later to the Tire Industry Association (TIA), after its merger with the International Tire & Rubber Association.
Along with the two Hall of Fame inductees, NETSA President Dale Franklin also recognized board member Rich Tuttle of University Wholesalers Inc. in Colchester, Vt., with the President's Award, in recognition of his dedicated service to the association, including his behind-the-scenes work over the years on its convention and trade show.
The association increased its membership over the past year by 153 to a record 446 members. The goal over the coming year is to aim for 500 members, Mr. Franklin said. Already the association is on its way, having signed up 12 new members during the convention. NETSA reported $129,000 in liquid assets.
Mr. Franklin, of Partner Tire & Service Inc. in Colchester, was re-elected to a second term as president.
NETSA represents tire dealers in Connecticut Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. It also has members from New Jersey and New York.
The Uncasville convention attracted more than 600 attendees.
