QINGDAO, China (April 28, 2010) — Techking Tires Ltd. is collecting funds to help the victims of the earthquake that struck southern Qinghai, China, April 14.
The 7.1-magnitude quake destroyed buildings and left thousands of people homeless.
Techking said it will make an initial donation of 60,000 RMB (about $8,800) from its OTR tire sales over the next three months. The company will contribute $1 for each OTR tire sold. Techking said it will make a second donation if the collection exceeds $8,800.
Company employees already have contributed about $11,100 to the Red Cross Qingdao office, said Techking, a worldwide distributor of radial and bias OTR, truck and car tires.
Employees recently gathered in a Techking conference room to observe three minutes of silence for quake victims and express their feelings about the devastation. After the gathering, the company said the staff volunteered to contribute money, which was given to the Red Cross office in Qingdao.
