Joseph Tusick, former co-owner and sales manager for Cleveland-based commercial tire dealership All Terrain Tire Inc., died March 27. He was 83.
Mr. Tusick never stopped working and was the patriarch of OTR and earthmover (tires) in Northeast Ohio, according to Dave Oster, long-time friend and owner of All Terrain Tire. Anybody that's got heavy equipment knows his name.
Mr. Tusick's career in the tire industry began in the 1950s at a Penrose Tire outlet in Lorain, Ohio, now a Conrad's Tire Express & Total Car Care center. In the late 1960s he became a minority partner at Carolina Tire Co., which converted to a Brad Ragan Inc. location in the 1970s.
Mr. Oster, who previously worked for Mr. Tusick at the store, founded All Terrain Tire in 1979.
In 1981, Mr. Tusick joined his former employee as co-owner of All Terrain Tire, and in 1988 he sold back his portion of the business in order to become a full-time sales manager.
He's basically the guy who taught me how to do what I do, Mr. Oster said. He was a mentor and a friend for 40 years.
Mr. Tusick is survived by daughter Cathryn Kavan; sons Thomas, William, Larry, Raymond, Joseph and Tim; sister Sue Roth; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
