BEND, Ore. (Feb. 11, 2010) — Les Schwab Tire Centers is continuing its 47-year tradition of offering free beef with the purchase of two or four passenger or light truck tires.
Every February the tire dealership offers its free beef promotion and this year the company expects to spend about $1 million for more than 100,000 pounds of beef as party pack gifts consisting of summer sausage and beef jerky, or frozen steaks and hamburgers. Customers also receive recipe brochures from the beef industry.
“Our company's first tire centers were located in rural and agricultural communities and (founder) Les Schwab came up with the idea as a way to promote his business and support his farming and ranching customers,” said Brian Capp, vice president of marketing. “As the company expanded, the promotion expanded as well,”
During the promotion, the company installs freezers in 420 retail stores in California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. The dealership said the beef is purchased from local USDA Certified locations to support the region's cattle industry.
