GRANADA HILLS, Calif. (Feb. 10, 2010) — Ed Cohn, longtime executive director of the California Tire Dealers Association—South, died Feb. 8. He was 74.
Mr. Cohn, known for his “acerbic wit” and ever-present hat, had served as CTDA—South's executive director since the 1980s, according to Ejnar Fink-Jensen, executive director of the California Tire Dealers Association—North.
Mr. Cohn also worked tirelessly for the association, growing its membership of independent tire dealers and organizing fundraisers such as an annual Day at the Races, basketball and golf tournaments and a lottery for members.
Jay Goldberg, retired tire retreader and long-time friend of Mr. Cohn, said the two of them had been acquainted for about 40 years.
“He was always upbeat,” Mr. Goldberg said of Mr. Cohn, one of his former customers. “(It was) very hard to find him down about anything. He could be upset about an issue, but he always tried to look at it in a light way. That was just his nature.”
Mr. Goldberg said the last few years had been difficult for Mr. Cohn, who developed heart problems and was going through dialysis for his kidneys. He last saw him a week ago and said he “could see he wasn't feeling very well.”
Mr. Cohn is survived by his wife, Lorraine.
