Vredestein exec gets Apollo post
GURGAON, IndiaApollo Tyres Ltd is setting up a global marketing structure under the leadership of Marc Luyten, previously director, marketing and sales at Apollo Vredestein B.V., Apollo's Netherlands-based subsidiary.
Mr. Luyten will become chief marketing officer on Jan. 1. The global marketing structure reflects the integration of Apollo Tyres India and its two major purchasesDunlop Tyres in South Africa in 2006 and Vredestein Banden in May 2009.
Both firms have since been renamed Apollo Tyres South Africa Pty. Ltd. and Apollo Vredestein B.V., respectively.
The acquisitions resulted in a range of brands in the Apollo stable, each of which has different brand strengths in different regions. The team under Mr. Luyten will focus on enhancing each brand's position across the globe, Apollo said.
Pirelli, partner to buy Russian plant
ROMEPirelli & C. S.p.A. and Russian Technologies State Corp. are enlarging the scope of their 13-month-old cooperation agreement to include the acquisition of an existing Russian tire plant.
Pirelli and Moscow-based Russian Technologies formed a joint venture in November 2008 to oversee the construction of a car and truck tire and steel cord plant in Russia's Samara region. That project was valued at $430 million.
The parties said now they are evaluating a purchase from among some potentially interesting Russian enterprises. They anticipate making a purchase next year.
