FORT MILL, S.C. (Dec. 18, 2009) — Continental Tire North America Inc.'s deal to become the title sponsor of and exclusive tire supplier to Grand-Am Road Racing's Sports Car Challenge series will involve Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. as the race tire manufacturer and trackside support provider.
The Grand-Am deal represents the first public manifestation of Conti's recently forged strategic alliance with Hoosier Tire, which has been the Grand-Am series' tire supplier since its inception in 2000.
Hoosier makes the tires at its Plymouth, Ind., plant.
The 10-race series — which runs as a companion to the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and has been called the Koni Challenge the past several seasons — will be called the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
Koni Challenge fields averaged about 45 cars last season, split between two classes.
The parties did not disclose the value of the sponsorship and supply agreement, which runs through the 2014 season.
