FORT MILL, S.C. (Dec. 9, 2009) — Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) has added 60-series ultra-low-profile steer and drive tires to its Eco Plus truck tire line, targeting owners/drivers of large capacity and car carrier trucks.
The new tires—HSL2 Eco Plus (Heavy Steer Long-Haul) and HDL2 Eco Plus (Heavy Drive Long-Haul)—in size 295/60R22.5, are three inches shorter than the comparable 275/80R22.5 sizes while offering 1,215 additional pounds of carrying capacity in a single fitment for load range G, Conti said.
This marks the first time Conti has offered a ULP fitment in its long-haul Eco Plus line.
Both the HSL2 and HDL2 Eco Plus use tread compounds optimized for low rolling resistance, Conti said, while still providing long original mileage and excellent wear characteristics.
“Continental is meeting the increased demand for truck tires that can handle higher load capacities, while also satisfying drivers' needs for both long mileage and fuel savings,” said Clif Armstrong, the company's director of marketing for commercial vehicle tires, the Americas.
The tires are being produced at Conti's plant in Puchov, Slovak Republic, but CTNA plans to move production to its Mount Vernon, Ill., factory as soon as adequate volumes are achieved, the company said.
The ULP sizes cost approximately 15 percent more than traditional sizes, Conti said.
