TOKYO (Aug. 5, 2009) — The Federation International de l'Automobile (FIA) has extended for three more seasons Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.'s contract to supply the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) with racing tires exclusively.
Yokohama has been the series' exclusive partner since the 2006 season. The contract extension will run through the 2012 season, Yokohama said.
The WTCC is a touring car race series featuring both private and car maker-supported teams. The 2009 season features cars from BMW A.G., General Motors Corp.'s Chevrolet division, Volkswagen A.G.'s SEAT brand and the Russian car maker LADA competing in 24 races over 12 race weekends at tracks in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa.
Yokohama supplies Advan dry and wet weather racing tires for the series.
