FALLS CHURCH, Va. (Aug. 3, 2009) — The Motorist Assurance Program (MAP) is sponsoring its third annual Brake Safety Awareness Week, Aug. 23-29.
MAP, a consumer outreach effort of the Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association (AMRA), will encourage consumers to stop at any of the more than 8,000 MAP participating shops for a brake and related undercar inspection.
The shops, displaying the MAP decal, also are expected to educate vehicle owners regarding key undercar systems, provide complimentary automotive troubleshooting materials and answer consumers' preventative maintenance questions.
MAP, a non-profit program, requires all of its participating shops to adhere to a strict set of fact-based vehicle inspection and communication standards. MAP establishes criteria not only for recommending replacement of worn parts and other products, but also how these recommendations are communicated to the vehicle owner.
