C&R Tire and Auto Inc. opened in early May its fifth retail tire and automotive service location in the Greater Phoenix area.
The company bought two existing attached warehouses and has converted them into a single 5,500-sq.-ft. outlet. C&R Tire operates six service bays and stocks about 650 tires at the new retail shop, which also handles several wholesale accounts.
According to Chris Holmstrom, COO for C&R Tire, the building cost in excess of $500,000; more than $100,000 was spent on equipment and construction of office space.
In light of its recent purchase, he said the C&R's performancethe dealership annually does about $5 million in saleshas been down about 10 percent in 2009. That's mostly tiresour service is pretty much level.
In addition to the new location, C&R Tire operates two stores in Phoenix, one in Scottsdale, Ariz., and one in Anthem, Ariz. The company's main tire lines include Yokohama, Pirelli, Hankook, Giti, Sumitomo, Continental and General brand products.
C&R Tire is owned by Mr. Holmstrom's father Ralph Holmstrom, who started the business 13 years ago after a 30-year career with Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. and Bridgestone Americas, where he held several management positions.
