YORK, Pa. (April 13, 2009)—Service Tire Truck Centers Inc. (STTC) opened in February an 85,000-sq.-ft. Michelin Retread Technologies (MRT) retread and service shop in York that replaced an existing location in that city.
Bethlehem, Pa.-based STTC said the new facility has efficient motion-sensitive lighting and “state-of-the-art” air compressors and cyclones to reduce energy consumption.
The dealership installed epoxy floors and designed its lighting in such a way as to create a positive work environment and to have a showcase facility for its customers and vendors.
Besides retreading, the location has a custom-built Powder Coat Process with an automatic phosphate dip tank and a high-efficiency curing oven; aluminum wheel refinishing equipment; OTR repair equipment; a fuel island; a truck scale; and multiple truck drive-in service bays.
“We needed a new facility to have another production hub to meet our increased production needs,” said company COO and co-owner Walt Dealtrey Jr. “It also allowed us to install the newest equipment to ensure that we make retreads of the highest quality.”
STTC operates 26 commercial locations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and New York. The firm is among the 15 largest commercial dealerships in North America with estimated 2008 sales of $110 million. It ranks 12th among retreaders with 770 daily units of production at three plants. STTC switched to the MRT process in 2006.
