DETROIT (Jan. 16, 2009) — Brembo North America Inc.'s high-performance brakes will be original equipment on the Chevrolet Camaro SS muscle car, General Motor Corp.'s featured vehicle at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The 420-horsepower Camaro SS features a V-8 engine fitted with four-piston, two-piece aluminum calipers along with 14-inch rotors in the front and 14.4-inch rotors in the rear.
Brembo said the two-piece front calipers are designed to weigh 32 percent less than those fitted on the V6-powered Camaro and provide increased stiffness for reduced fluid displacement and caliper deformation.
According to the company, its pillar-vented rotor design improves cooling and crack resistance of the breaking surface, and a geomet coating prevents rusting.
