AKRON (Jan. 8, 2009) — Joan Floyd, who for years worked tirelessly alongside her husband Bill in managing two Ohio tire dealer associations, died Jan. 7 after a long illness. She was 77.
Mrs. Floyd worked for 30 years as executive assistant of the Ohio Tire Dealers Association (OTDA) while her husband served as executive director. She worked behind the scenes in the day-to-day operation of the trade group (now called the Ohio Tire & Automotive Association), including answering phones, selling tickets to trade shows and helping plan and organize those shows, Mr. Floyd told Tire Business.
The couple would have been married 59 years next month.
Most recently, Mrs. Floyd worked as executive secretary of the former Northeast Ohio Regional Tire Dealers Association, from 1997 until the group disbanded in 2004.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 15 at First Baptist Church in Barberton, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Floyd is survived by sons Michael and Gary; daughter Kathi Keifer of McAllisterville, Pa.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother John Stocker; sister Nancy Sgro; and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society.
