GREENVILLE, S.C. (Nov. 20, 2008) — Michelin North America Inc. on Nov. 18 celebrated the 20th anniversary of its North American headquarters in Greenville.
The tire maker commemorated its anniversary with a ceremony and reception for Michelin employees at its headquarters building.
Michelin first relocated its North American operations in 1985 to Greenville, where it operated two manufacturing plants and an R&D facility, from Lake Success, N.Y. Michelin broke ground on the 265,700-sq.-ft. headquarters building in February 1987 and moved into the building Nov. 18, 1988. The company has since added a 54,000-sq.-ft. building adjacent to its main headquarters.
“Michelin is proud to celebrate two successful decades of our North American headquarters in Greenville,” said Dick Wilkerson, chairman and president of Michelin. “Many of the employees who moved into this building 20 years ago are here today to celebrate this significant event.”
Michelin employs 1,750 at its Greenville complex, including field sales and support staff members who are assigned to the location but work remotely, the company said. It has 7,720 employees and almost 3,000 retirees throughout South Carolina.
