AKRON (Aug. 8, 2008) — Goodyear temporarily will idle four of its North American tire plants during August to reduce production to meet demand levels, a company spokeswoman said.
Goodyear's plants in Gadsden, Ala., Fayetteville, N.C., and Union City, Tenn., will shut during the last two weeks of August. The company's Napanee, Ontario, plant will close for only the last week of the month.
Goodyear's Lawton, Okla., plant will also be affected and will run a “reduced daily production schedule” for one week, the spokeswoman said.
The company plans to reduce consumer tire production in 2008 by 8 million units vs. 2007 output, she said.
