CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 26, 2008) — Continental Tire North America Inc. will be the title sponsor of the Porsche Parade Gimmick Rally on June 30.
The rally will be one of the events during the weeklong Porsche Parade festivities that will start at Continental headquarters in Charlotte and run through the surrounding Piedmont area, the tire maker said.
Joerg Burfien, Conti's director of research and development, will give a speech on technology at the opening breakfast on Monday, June 30. Participants also will have the opportunity to get their vehicles' tire pressure checked as well as interact with Continental's “Safely There” educational rig during the morning kickoff event.
A new twist is aimed at bringing some gamesmanship to the traditional annual event. Participants will be given turn-by-turn directions and a list of questions/clues—in the form of a pun and/or witticism—pertaining to the route. During the rally, participants will be able to choose from two routes: one with more questions/clues worth fewer points each; the other with fewer, tougher questions worth more points. The team with the most points wins.
Andreas Gerstenberger, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Conti, said the event “is an exciting way to expose our tires to a very discerning group of drivers, and we're looking forward to hosting them at our headquarters.”
