GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 25, 2008) – Michelin North America Inc. will launch its latest ultrahigh-performance tire, the Pilot Sport All-Season Plus, later this summer in the U.S. and Canada with a 45,000-mile limited warranty to underscore the tire's enhanced treadlife.
Michelin will roll out the tire Sept. 1 with 29 sizes covering 75 percent of the targeted market, and will add 30 more sizes by March 2009, according to Nicolas Goubert, brand category manager. This effectively will replace the Sport A/S, which has been Michelin's primary UHP tire line since 2001.
The A/S Plus, in development for only about 11 months, is being rolled out in response to an expanding market segment, improved products from the competition and technological advances since the Pilot Sport A/S was launched in 2001, said Parmeet Grover, Michelin brand manager.
Michelin claims the new tire offers improved wet grip while maintaining all-weather performance, thanks to the firm's "TriFusion" compound technology, which results in a tread with three distinct tread patterns and tread compounds. It also offers "dramatically" improved treadlife, due to the firm's "MaxTouch" tire design technology, which essentially puts a more stable footprint on the ground throughout the tire's life.
The sizing options will range from 205/55ZR16 to 265/30ZR22 at a pricing premium of about 5 percent over the Sport A/S. The targeted class of vehicles includes the C5 Corvette, Cadillac CTS, BMW S3, Lexus IS330, Mercedes C class and other high-performance cars.
The tire is being built at Michelin's C3M advanced technology plant in Greenville.
