MEMPHIS, Tenn. (June 16, 2008) — TBC Corp.'s Tire Kingdom Inc., Merchant's Tire & Auto Centers and National Tire & Battery (NTB) have partnered with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) to raise money for pediatric cancer research.
From June 6-9, more than 670 TBC retail stores in 25 states provided lemonade to customers in exchange for donations. Though the lemonade promotion has run its course, the company is encouraging customers to continue their donations through the end of June.
“We are delighted to help in the cause of finding cures for childhood cancer,” said Bob Crostarosa, vice president of marketing at Tire Kingdom. “This is our first year partnering with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, providing our employees and customers with the opportunity to help the foundation started by an inspired child in her own fight against cancer.”
In 2000, 4-year-old cancer patient Alexandra Scott started the lemonade stand to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Alexandra passed away in 2004, but the foundation she started has raised more than $19 million and funded more than 80 research projects across the U.S.
TBC's Big O Tires Inc. unit will hold its own ALSF awareness and donations campaign in July at more than 1,200 locations in 45 states.
