DEARBORN, Mich. (April 17, 2008) — Ford Motor Co. has honored South Korea's Hankook Tire Co. Ltd. with a silver quality award for 2007, the only tire company among 47 global suppliers honored.
Hankook, which supplies Ford both in North America and Europe, earned a silver award given to suppliers that “consistently demonstrate superior quality, delivery and cost performance,” according to Ford. Hankook earned a gold quality award from Ford in 2005.
This is the 10th year of Ford's World Excellence Awards, presented in three categories: gold, silver and recognition of achievement.
“This marks the 10th year we have honored world-class suppliers for extraordinary contributions that directly impact Ford's ability to deliver high quality vehicles and customer satisfaction,” said Tony Brown, group vice president, global purchasing, in a prepared statement. “This commitment to excellence is coming through in the latest quality data, which show Ford's initial quality in North America is now equal to the best in the industry. These successes belong not just to Ford—but our suppliers as well.”
Besides Hankook, three wheel makers were honored: Superior Industries International Inc. of Pittsburg, Kan., gold; and Hayes Lemmerz Autokola A.S. of Ostrava, Czech Republic and Ronal Polska Sp.z o.o. of Jelcz-Laskowice, Poland, silver.
