INDIANAPOLIS (April 11, 2008) — Mac Tools and Indy Racing League (IRL) officials have signed a one-year promotional partnership that will give the tool and equipment maker a “big presence” at IndyCar Series races around the country this year.
A key aspect of the partnership will be the Mac Tools “Lap Leader Award” program, which will track laps led by all IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights entries displaying the Mac Tools logo on their cars over the course of the 2008 season. The entry in those series that has led the most laps at the end of the season will be awarded an allotment of Mac Tools products at the season-ending Indy Racing League award banquet.
Greg Gruning, vice president of sales for the IndyCar Series, said the partnership is a “perfect fit for the IndyCar Series. Mac Tools has earned tremendous respect within the racing community for its commitment to producing top-quality tools that hold up under the rigors of racing competition. They enjoy that same level of respect among everyday consumers, so they're a natural partner for spreading the word about IndyCar Series racing to a growing audience.”
Besides the “Lap Leader Award,” Westerville, Ohio-based Mac Tools said it will supply the series with tools and provide teams with a discount on purchases of its products. The tool maker also plans to produce a limited-edition Indianapolis 500 toolbox.
“We're thrilled to be on board for the first unified season under the IndyCar Series banner in over a decade,” said Roger Spee, director of marketing for Mac Tools.
(The IRL and Champ Car World Series, the pre-eminent open-wheel racing series in North America, agreed Feb. 22 to unify the two series into one after running competing series for a dozen years. Champ Car subsequently filed for bankruptcy.)
Mac Tools, which has been a part of The Stanley Works since 1980, has a distributor base of 2,000 that reaches automotive shops via mobile tool trucks in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan and Latin America as well as other countries.
