SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (Nov. 8, 2007) — Two products from Federal-Mogul Corp. have received finalist and honorable mention standing in the 2008 Automotive News Pace (Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contributions to Excellence) Awards competition.
Federal-Mogul's patented SureFire aluminum oxide ceramic material used in the production of spark plug insulators has been named a finalist. The Southfield-based company said the material provides extremely high electrical resistivity, resulting in a spark plug of exceptional long-term dielectric durability. SureFire was first introduced in the firm's Champion Iridium and Champion Double Platinum Power spark plugs.
The company's compact LED interior pod lighting received a Pace honorable mention in the 2008 competition. The system—introduced with the launch of the 2006 Chrysler Aspen—is moveable, rotational and directional and provides optimal light output with less distracting glare for the driver and passengers, Federal-Mogul said.
The annual Pace Award is considered the benchmark for innovation among suppliers of vehicle components and subsystems. It honors organizations that have embraced innovation or reinvented themselves to meet the demands of original equipment manufacturers. Winners of the award will be announced in April in conjunction with the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) World Congress in Detroit.
Federal-Mogul has received four previous Pace Awards from Automotive News, which is a sister publication of Tire Business.
