LAS VEGAS—Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. is beginning production in Japan of its Super E-Spec passenger tire, which combines citrus oil with natural rubber to form an environmentally friendly compound, officials said.

The tire is being made in three sizes to fit the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Toyota Prius for sale in Japan, said Jim Mayfield, director of Yokohama´s Advan brand.

Fred Koplin, director of marketing and communications for Yokohama Tire Corp., said plans for the tire in the U.S. remain indefinite as the company would need to produce more sizes for this market. The tire also could be produced in the U.S., but there is no timetable for that, he added.

Yokohama first announced the tire in February.
