LAS VEGAS (Oct. 31, 2007) — Two forged wheel marketers have forged a strategic alliance to design, manufacture, market and sell forged alloy wheels to the automotive aftermarket.
Greg Weld Inc. and Cleveland-based Alcoa Wheel Products said they will offer innovative products and leading-edge technology that exceeds “the needs of the most demanding 4x4 or 'Tuff Truck' enthusiast.” Greg Weld Design's new Tru-Forged wheels, made by Alcoa, “will offer unparalleled one-piece forged wheel strength. Combined with Greg Weld's design and engineering input, these wheels will offer head-turning styling that is uniquely Greg Weld,” the companies said from the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, where the wheels are being displayed.
The firms said the Tru-Forged wheels will be hot-forged from a billet of 6061-T6 aerospace alloy for maximum strength and durability. They feature a lightweight design, a 3,500-pound load rating and lifetime limited structural warranty.
The wheels are available in 20-, 22- and 24-inch diameters and up to 14 inches wide. The Tru-Forged Tuff Truck wheels are designed for the newest 4x4 tire sizes, the companies said, and feature a polished finish that carries a limited five-year warranty supported by Greg Weld Design.
“We are very excited to create this alliance. Alcoa Wheels will be able to provide Greg Weld Design with our cutting edge product technology, manufacturing and production excellence,” said Mike Parnell, vice president/general manager, Alcoa Auto Wheels.
In a press statement, Greg Weld, president of Kansas City, Mo.-based Greg Weld Inc., said the new deal with Alcoa “will aggressively utilize Alcoa's wheel expertise and experience. We will now be able to offer the finest forged wheels for many facets of the automotive aftermarket, especially wheels for 4x4's, trucks and SUVs.
“Alcoa invented the forged aluminum wheel in 1948, and has been improving forged wheel technology ever since. Alcoa's reputation for quality and efficiency is truly legendary. They are the world leader in forged alloy wheels.”
Former Goodyear executive Brandon Stotsenburg, director of automotive aftermarket, Alcoa Forged Specialty Wheels, said, “We are preparing for an early 2008 launch and are excited about this co-branding opportunity between Greg Weld Design and Alcoa Wheels.”
The companies planned to release complete program details soon.
Greg Weld Design said it competes directly against, and is not affiliated with, Weld Racing or American Racing. Greg Weld was the founder and former CEO of Weld Racing Wheels.
